Advance Innovation Group Interpret about Six Sigma

Introduction:

Six Sigma has now been a popular management philosophy for years. It was first introduced by Bill Smith in Motorola during mid-1980s. Allied Signal (now Honeywell International) embraced it in the early 1990s and then General Electric successfully applied and made it the most popular management philosophy in the history of business process improvement.

Unequal other quality opening that focus just on tools, Six Sigma is supported on the active engagement it make from management.

It drives customer satisfaction and bottom-line results by reducing variations and waste, thereby promoting a competitive advantage.

Definition:

Six Sigma (6σ) is a disciplined, data-driven approach and methodology for eliminating defects& minimizing variation in business processes,be it manufacturing or service. It is also a measurement of capability of any process to perform defect free work.
Statistically, it represents the data accommodation within six standard deviations between the mean and the nearest specification limit.

The matureness of a manufacturing process can be represented by a sigma rating (Z-value) contraindicate the percentage of defect-free products it creates. To reach Six Sigma, a process must not create more than 3.4 defects per million opportunities (DPMO).
A defect in Six Sigma is defined as anything outside of customer specifications. A Six Sigma opportunity is then the total quantity of chances contributing towards a defect.

Processes that operate with six sigma quality over the short term are assumed to produce long-term defect levels below 3.4 defects per million opportunities (DPMO).

Application:

Six Sigma is industry specific. So, the sigma level differs from industry to industry. Some of the common Six sigma approaches for application are:

1) As Business management Philosophy
2) As Problem solving methodology (i.e. Y = f (x))
3) As Process Metric
4) As Management System

Methodology:

The fundamental objective of the Six Sigma methodology is the implementation of a measurement based strategy that focuses on process improvement and variation reduction through the application of Six Sigma improvement projects.

This is accomplished through the use of following Six Sigma methodologies:

1) DMAIC: The Six Sigma DMAIC process (define, measure, analyze, improve& control) is an improvement system for existing processes falling below specification and looking for incremental improvement.
2) DMADV: The Six Sigma DMADV process (define, measure, analyze, design & verify) is an improvement system used to develop new processes or products at Six Sigma quality levels.
DFSS: The Six Sigma DFSS process (Design for Six Sigma) aims to create entirely new process when after certain level, improvement is not possible in the existing process. It is primarily achieved through automation of the process.
